Young Carer Program

Young Carer Program

The Young Carer Program provides assistance to young people under the age of 25 who are studying at school or a vocational equivalent and find themselves in a caring role, providing significant care for a family member who is ageing, has a chronic condition, disability or mental illness. The Young Carer Program is one of the programs which operate under the umbrella of Carer Respite and Support Services across the Grampians Region.

There are 3 Young Carer Support Workers in the Grampians Region - one in each of the Carer Respite and Support Services' regional offices in Horsham, Stawell and Ballarat.

The role of each Young Carer Support Worker is to support Young Carers in their caring role. They provide social activities, respite breaks, one-to-one and practical support, and work with the young person to try to ensure they are supported in a creative and flexible way that aims to lessen the impact of their caring role.
