Multicultural EducatioN

Multicultural education aims to ensure all Victorian students contribute to and benefit from cultural and linguistic diversity and a shared social cohesion.
Links to the DEECD website provide a range of useful information and resources for school leaders, teachers and parents regarding multicultural education in Victorian government schools.
About Multicultural Education – includes an explanation of multicultural education including its vision, rationale and the principles of multiculturalism.
For Teachers - includes resources, strategies, events and professional learning opportunities in multicultural education
For School Leaders - provides information about government multicultural policy and legislative frameworks, and implications for schools to guide the development and implementation of polices and practices
For Parents - contains information for parents regarding multicultural education and community agencies for support.

KOORIE EDUCATION SUPPORT

Koorie Education Support Officers are responsible for delivering support and services to Koorie children and their families through their regions and replaces the past Koorie Educators, Koorie Education Development Officers, Koorie Early Childhood Field Officers, and Home School Liaison Officer positions.

Student Wellbeing

Student Wellbeing provides information on initiatives such as the Framework for Student Support Services, which provides additional resources to strengthen student welfare and support services.

Homelessness
- provides resources to assist schools and service organisations to support students and their families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, including an associated brochure for parents and young people.
Students in Out-of-Home Care
- a practical resource for teachers, principals, student welfare coordinators and wellbeing staff. It should be used to support the teaching of children and young people in Out-of-Home Care.
School Focused Youth Service
- details of the role of the School Focussed Youth Service, which coordinates preventative and early intervention strategies for young people, to be delivered through school and community clusters.
Best Start
- is a project that aims to improve the health, development, learning and well-being of all Victorian children from pregnancy through transition to school.
Abilities Awareness
- the Abilities Education Program aims to show students from Prep to Year 12 that people should be defined by what they can do, not what they can't do and discuss disabilities awareness.
Students with Disabilities
- provides additional support in the School Resource Package to either a regular school or one of the various specialist schools for eligible students with disabilities.
Flexible Learning Options
—provides information about flexible learning options in school and community settings that support those children and young people at risk of disengaging or already disengaged from education to re-engage in school.
Mental Health
The Victorian government is committed to building the capacity of schools and early childhood education and care settings to support the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people.

Youth Transitions 

Many education and training options are available to students during their senior secondary years. There is a range of programs and tools available to schools to assist students to navigate through these options and to support them in their transitions.
