Who are Community Champions?
Community Champions are organisations, businesses and individuals in the Wimmera Southern Mallee area who support our young people through the MATES Mentoring Program by becoming or providing Mentors.
What EXACTLY does it mean to become a Community Champion?
As a registered Community Champion organisation, business or individual you are committing to supporting the mates Mentoring Program.
- As an individual you will be registering as someone who is willing to be a Mentor to achieve the aims of the program (subsequent to meeting eligibility requirements)
- As an organisation or business, you will be willing to release employees to an agreed period of community release time (maximum of 2 hours per month for one year) which will allow them to become Mentors and catch up with their Mentee during work hours.
What are the benefits of becoming a Community Champion?
- Personal fulfilment through contribution to the community and the Mentee, satisfaction in helping someone mature, progress, and achieve goals, enjoyment of group events and recognition events and self-improvement through training sessions
- Building stronger communities by increasing the social connectedness of young people in our region
- Meet organisational goals, vision statements and aspirations around community involvement and corporate responsibility to the district
- ‘Community Champions’ organisations and individual partners acknowledged and advertised on the Wimmera Southern Mallee LLEN website
- Boost staff morale through positive impact, professional development and involvement
- Involvement in end of year celebration events and certificates of appreciation
- Reporting in Annual Report about community involvement and meeting organisational goals through the mates Mentoring Program.
